He wrote the plays "Götz von Berlichingen", "Egmont", "Torquato Tasso", "Faust", and the novels "The Sorrows of Young Werther" and "Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship".

Gogol, Nikolai Vasilievich (1809-1852)

Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol the Russian short-story writer, dramatist and novelist was born in Sorochyntsi, Poltava. He wrote the play "The Government Inspector" and the novel "Dead Souls".
