Edison, Thomas Alva (1847-1931)

Thomas Alva Edison was the inventor of electric lighting and the gramophone.

Edward VIII (1894-1972)

Edward VIII succeeded his father, George V, as king of Britain in January 1936. In December 1936 he abdicated to marry the American, Wallis Simpson, who had been married twice. After abdicating he was made the Duke of Windsor.
